Finally We Met Again

English only.
Today was a fantastic day because I met my friend Dorien again! She is a learning and development professional from Belgium and we first met in July 2011. We have been to India where we did a volunteering project with IDEX (Indian Network for Development Exchange). I was really thirsty about coaching and personal development and as I met her I was super happy to met someone I can asked.
Dorien told me about NLP University (where I attend two years later for doing my praactitioner) and gave me recommendations on books and other resources. And much more then that. She really inspired me with two things. First, I was interested how our volunteering activity working with youth there can make a difference and looked hardly for ways making it better. She mentioned that just being with them makes a difference already. I hadn't thought that simple and was enlighted by that. And the secnd thing, a colleague of us had a family emergency and Dorien took over leadership in that important situation and helped out that person immediately, in the middle of the night.
Returned from our trip our friendship continued online and later I was looking for a coach and she started to coach me via skype. About once a month we had coaching sessions and she supported me in periods of lot of change, starting new work, moving to different countries, growing and becoming more complete.
And about three weeks ago we found out that we both have been to London around new years time.
So we met today, had lunch at a vegetarian restaurant near Picadilly, went for a beautiful sunny and blue-sky walk to St. James Park, Westminster Abbey and met later with my girlfriend Harriet and her friend Carmen at the National Gallery, followed by a dinner at a Italian restaurant in Soho.
It's not three years but there is so much to talk about with her. And it's simply wonderful to be in her presence. Just can say thank you for that beautiful day!

New Year Resolution? Get One Word.

http://www.jongordon.com/blog/today-show-one-word/#!prettyPhoto[gallery]/0/

Deutsche Version siehe unten. / German bekow.
Jon Gordon, famous author and speaker about energy and greatitude have a brilliant approach. As much resolutions fail one word couldn't. It is all about choosing a word you like to live or get more of in the coming year. It can be everything, if you listen in yourself, you get it. Dream it, imagine it, choose it and go for it. Draw it, write it down, put reminders everywhere.
Jon's word for 2014 is “open”.
Today him and his approach was featured on the NBC Today show:
and he has also written a great and short book about:
and much more, for example blank-posters, photos, videos are here to find: http://getoneword.com/resources-2/

For me this is not about promoting one of my favorite authors, it's that I'm really thrilled by the approach. My first round, last year, my choice was “follow”. I reached a point where I found I actually got all in life and have clearly defined my rules and values. So I choosen “follow” to follow who I was. While I did my NLP Practitioner in 2013 I realized how much I am and I redeveloped my learning. When I want to learn or do something new I do best if I simply follow my passions and desires instead of learning just from the books.
And for this year my word is:
somatic
I want to be, live, learn and act through the whole body. Sometimes I want to step a bit aside from the head, connect to the intelligence within my nervous system and field around me and get way more sensations.
For now, I really, really encourage you to get one word, and if so, please share it!
GW

GW.

Book Review: Dilts / DeLozier / Bacon Dilts: NLP II – The Next Generation

(Deutsche Version unten / German below)
As Neuro Linguistic Programming was first teached by Richard Bandler and John Grinder at the University of California in Santa Cruz Robert Dilts and Judith DeLozier have been first students of them and together they published a book in 1980, called NLP1. This first book which gave a main overview of NLP mentioned a second edition which should be more hands on. The author team continued to teach NLP but went on their own path and years passed by until it came to that second edition. Exactly 30 year later NLP II The Next Generation – Enriching the Structure of Subjective Experience was released. And this is a milestone. The filed of NLP developed vastly in three decades and this book is ideal as a hands-on guide for NLP Practitioners or people highly curious in personal development.
While the first generation was a lot focused on problem solving on the behavior, it's scope expand toward beliefs, values and meta-programs in a second generation and from there toward high level issues such as identity, vision and mission.
Neuro Linguistic Programming is about to increase and re-interpret individuals choices and as better something is known, understand or observed as more choices emerge and can be used. In it's book NLP II, Robert Dilts, Judith DeLozier and Deborah Bacon deliver an approach to increase choices as there focus is not just on the cognitive mind it's also on the – not to underestimate – somatic mind and field mind.
And this is how the book is structured. The cognitive chapter includes among others basic knowledge about the brain, mapping across, time frames, perceptual positions levels of learning. The somatic mind contains insides from the field of neurogastroenterology, neurocardiology, breathing, biofeedback, Dancing SCORE and Gabrielle Roth's 5Rythms® dance.
And the Field Mind chapter introduces mirror neurons, spirituality and purpose, how a field get created and how shared resources become available.
This books gave well explained introductions with paying attention to the founder or initiator of a certain tool or topic. There are lot of visuals and step by step instructions which allow readers to explore.
In my opinion it is NLP to it's full beauty! A book full of ideas and knowledge, one that should read by everyone looking for an answer what NLP is and a must read for any NLP practitioner.

A Tipping Point for More Optimism

Deutsch siehe unten.
Martin E. P. Seligman says that it is the response to event's what determines whether we are optimists or pessimists. Optimists see positive events as general and negative events as specific. For example the win of a sales-deal. An optimist would say: “I'm a great sales person”, “I care about people” “I do good with people”. If this deal would have been lost the optimists believes are like “this person have no particular demand for product xy at this time” etc. Pessimists react opposite: Seeing negative happenings as general (I'm not a good Sales person) and positive events specific (luckily I reached the right customer at the right time).

How can we be in control and act positive to the events that occur to us?
Our reaction have to do with our daily conditions and this is often influenced how we get into the day. In her book “The Power” Rhonda Byrne wrote about a “Tipping Point”. Once you turn yourself to what you love you are on a positive frequency. Therefore it is important to have more then 50 percent positive thoughts. Even 51% is good. Cause once you are above the tipping point you attract more of it. It is like an upward or downward spiral.

Concluding this an approach for more optimism is to tune ourselves positive and work on achieving a plus 50 percent positive thought balance. By getting above, we get more of and are more likely to respond positive to the events we have to master, seeing the positive in general and the negative specific. GW

GW

Don't Forget, Stay Weird

Image courtesy of Stuart Miles / FreeDigitalPhotos.net
Sometimes you need to remind me. I think I had times I was a bit to geekish. Too much pat of the mass doing things as always. For example I remember when I worked in publishing. I liked the job, companies, the industry, the people etc. And I much adapted to it. Quiet conservative I did what I was asked for and what always where done.
Not always and not extreme. There where of course times I jumped on new projects, visited customers, set up new things etc. And this is exactly what's new and adds new value. It is great to get out of the comfort zone, add some crazyness toward new things. Ask thereby: How can I add value to the world by staying weird and do what I enjoy to do?

Fire Alarm Appreciation

Deutsch siehe unten. German see below.
The Liffey Trust Center in Dublin. A new built apartment, in the North Wall district of Dublin 1. I lived there for 14 month on the 5th floor in a modern apartment on the corner. All works fine. Almost all. One weak spot was the fire alarm. Approximately every other week, during different daytimes the alarm goes on. There was never a fire but all the apartments have smoke detectors and they might be sensible.
Years before a trusted customer recommend me to find out in hotels the escape way as he had someone close in a serious situation. I made it a habit and I took the habit with me in the Liffey Trust. When the alarm rings, I jump on, take shoes and jacket while walking out, take the outside stairs, walk down in the main backyard on the 2nd level and down the big stairs toward the front of the house. The alarm is ringing loudly until some facility manager switches them off. Astonishing was that sometimes I was the only one, other people maybe peek out and ask and others ignore it at all.
I'm aware that most likely there wouldn't be a fire and even if as the building has wide open air corridors and balcony's. It was just the habit. If it is an emergency I ensured to act right, otherwise I would prepare for emergency and there was one additional factor: This was an opportunity to appreciate to be in a safe environment. I appreciate to be in a safe building with technology and a process that supports my safety.
No worries for the next alarm, just appreciation to be safe!

Movie Review: The Internship

Deutsch siehe unten / German below.
Two middle age sales reps of a watch company, Nick (Owen Wilson) and Billy (Vince Vaughn) become redundant as the watch business is decreasing and their CEO decides to settle down in Florida. Halfway desperate the salesguys looked for opportunities and in a funny approach while doing online job-search one of the guys applied for an internship at Google and convinced the other one.
With a lot more luck then performance the guys finally made it for the summer internship-program.
Surrounded in the middle of smart, geekish high performers in their early twen years the two appeared like aliens in the silicon valley HQ of Google. And as it is at IT companies people have to get challenged. In teams they have to fulfill a load of various tasks and just the best got offered to finally work for the IT giant.
All the top college students joined each other to form small teams but our Nick and Billy ended up with the “leftovers”, a super geek, a cosplay girl, and a Mr. mobile phone about all. After a few things went wrong in a funny approach the two guys used their experience to motivate the team and things worked out. Sometimes painful, always extremely funny the team with the lowest expectation finally made the best overall score.
This movie is satiric about the hiring processes in IT companies and have the very positive intend to demonstrate that values like commitment and bonding to a high performing generative team works under many and odd circumstances. Splendid, funny and motivating to watch!
