Book Review: Dilts / DeLozier / Bacon Dilts: NLP II – The Next Generation

As Neuro Linguistic Programming was first teached by Richard Bandler and John Grinder at the University of California in Santa Cruz Robert Dilts and Judith DeLozier have been first students of them and together they published a book in 1980, called NLP1. This first book which gave a main overview of NLP mentioned a second edition which should be more hands on. The author team continued to teach NLP but went on their own path and years passed by until it came to that second edition. Exactly 30 year later NLP II The Next Generation – Enriching the Structure of Subjective Experience was released. And this is a milestone. The filed of NLP developed vastly in three decades and this book is ideal as a hands-on guide for NLP Practitioners or people highly curious in personal development.

While the first generation was a lot focused on problem solving on the behavior, it's scope expand toward beliefs, values and meta-programs in a second generation and from there toward high level issues such as identity, vision and mission.

Neuro Linguistic Programming is about to increase and re-interpret individuals choices and as better something is known, understand or observed as more choices emerge and can be used. In it's book NLP II, Robert Dilts, Judith DeLozier and Deborah Bacon deliver an approach to increase choices as there focus is not just on the cognitive mind it's also on the – not to underestimate – somatic mind and field mind.

And this is how the book is structured. The cognitive chapter includes among others basic knowledge about the brain, mapping across, time frames, perceptual positions levels of learning. The somatic mind contains insides from the field of neurogastroenterology, neurocardiology, breathing, biofeedback, Dancing SCORE and Gabrielle Roth's 5Rythms® dance.

And the Field Mind chapter introduces mirror neurons, spirituality and purpose, how a field get created and how shared resources become available.

This books gave well explained introductions with paying attention to the founder or initiator of a certain tool or topic. There are lot of visuals and step by step instructions which allow readers to explore.

In my opinion it is NLP to it's full beauty! A book full of ideas and knowledge, one that should read by everyone looking for an answer what NLP is and a must read for any NLP practitioner.

Als Neurolinguistisches Programmieren erstmals bei Richard Bandler und John Grinder an der Universität von Kalifornien in Santa Cruz gelehrt wurde waren Robert Dilts und Judith DeLozier erste Lernende. Gemeinsam hat das Team im Jahr 1980 ein Buch publiziert, dass NLP I heißt. Dieses Buch, dass einen grundlegenden Überblick über NLP gab wies auf ein nachfolgendes Buch hin welches mehr zum Anwenden geeignet werden sollte. Das Autorenteam hat über die Jahre fortgesetzt NLP zu unterrichten allerdings ging es in getrennte Wege und exakt 30 Jahre später kam es zu „NLP II - die neue Generation: Strukturen subjektiver Erfahrung - die Erforschung geht weiter”. Und dabei handelt es sich um einen Meilenstein. Das Themengebiet NLP hat sich in drei Dekaden enorm erweitert und dieses Buch ist nun ein ideales Anwenderbuch für NLP Parctitioner and all jene die große Neugier im Gebiet der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung zeigen.

Während die erste Generation NLP seinen Schwerpunkt auf Problemlösung auf der Verhaltensebene hatte hat sich nun die Bandbreite zu Glaubenssätzen, Meta-Programmen und Werten ausgedehnt und von dort nochmals erweitert zur Identität, Visionen und Missionen.

Neurolinguistisches Programmieren dient zur Erweiterung und Re-Interpretierung von Möglichkeiten und je besser etwas gewusst, verstanden und beobachtet wird desto mehr Möglichkeiten entstehen und können bewusst genutzt werden. In ihrem Buch NLP II liefern Dilts, DeLozier und Bacon Dilts eine Herangehensweise für den Erhalt von mehr Möglichkeiten. Dieser ist nicht nur auf den „kognitiven Geist“ basierend, er weitet sich auf den - nicht zu unterschätzenden - „somatischen Geist“ und „Feld Geist“ aus.

Und in dieser Zusammenstellung ist auch das Buch strukturiert. Das Kapitel „Der kognitive Geist“ handelt unter anderem über allgemeines Wissen zum Gehirn und Sprache, Wahrnehmungspositionen, Metaprogramm-Muster, Zeiterleben. Folgend „Der somatische Geist“ führt den Leser zu den Bereichen Neurogastroenterologie, Neurokardiologie, Atmung, Biofeedback, Dancing S.C.O.R.E und 5Rythmen® von Gabriele Roth. Folgend das Kapitel „Der Feld Geist“ behandelt Spiegel-Neuronen, Spiritualität und Sinn sowie das Erkunden, Erzeugen und Zusammenwirken eines Feldes.

Dieses Buch bietet ausführlich beschriebene Einführungen, legt ein Augenmerk auf die jeweiligen Begründer einer Technik oder Theorie, besticht durch zahlreiche Abbildungen sowie Schritt-für-Schritt-Erklärungen die das Erkunden von NLP ermöglichen.

Meiner Meinung nach NLP in vollster Schönheit! Ein Buch voller Ideen und Wissen, eines das von jeden der eine Antwort auf die Frage „was ist NLP?“ gelesen werden sollte sowie Pflichtlektüre für jeden NLP Practitioner.
